Balance Sheet for Food Commodities 2015, preliminary and 2014 final figures

  • Total grain consumption went down about one kilo, to 79 kilos. The consumption of wheat decreased by a little under two kilos; oats half a kilo. The consumption of rye and rice, however, rose about half a kilo each.
  • Seven per cent more of poultry was eaten last year than the previous one. Consumption of beef also grew by almost three per cent and the consumption of pork by almost two.
  • The rise in egg consumption continued. Over 11 kilos of eggs were consumed in 2015 per person, meaning a rise of approximately six per cent on 2014.
  • The consumption of whole milk decreased by nearly seven per cent on the previous year. The fall in the consumption of skimmed milk continued for the second consecutive year. Consumption of low-fat milk remained almost unchanged on the previous year. In 2015, per capita consumption of milk totalled 123 litres – a three per cent decrease on the previous year.
  • The consumption of cheese continued to grow. On average 26.6 kilos of cheese were consumed per capita.
  • An average of 58 kilos of fresh fruit were consumed, about four kilos more on the previous year.
