Cereals balance sheet, 2016 - 2017 (provisional) and 2015 - 2016 final figures

  • A total of 3.5 million tons of cereals were harvested in 2016, and three million tons of the harvest was used during the 1 July 2016–30 June 2017 crop year.
  • Approximately two million tons, i.e. about two thirds of the total, was used to feed livestock.
  • Approximately 440,000 tons was used for food, with wheat accounting for more than half - For the first time, oats passed rye, as its use for food was slightly more than 90,000 tons.
  • A total of 770,000 tons of cereals were exported and 27,000 tons imported during the year. The biggest export was oats at approximately 326,000 tons.

The figures for the 1 July 2016–30 June 2017 crop year are still provisional at this time, and a final cereals balance sheet will be published in September 2018.
