Headlines
- The commercial inland fishery catch totalled almost 6 million kilos in 2012, which was 1.3 million kilos more than in previous statistical year 2012.
- The value of the total commercial inland catch was around 11.7 million euros.
- Measured in terms of catch volume and value, the main catch species was vendace. The vendace catch (2.8 million kilos) was slightly larger than in previous years. The value of the catch was, however, slightly smaller than in the year 2012.
- Measured by catch value, the most important species after vendace were pikeperch (2.6 million euros), perch (0.5 million euros) and European whitefish (0.5 million euros).
- The catch of management fishing was 1.7 million kilos, which was more than one quarter of the whole catch. Management fishing by commercial fishermen is conducted for biomanipulation purposes.
- South Savo was the most important fishing area, in terms of value (2.1 million euros). This region accounted for over a third of Finland’s entire vendace catch.
- There were around 400 registered inland commercial fishermen in Finland.
