Headlines
- In 2015, the marine catch by fishing vessels registered in Finland totalled 148 million kg. The producer price of catch was 34 million.
- The bulk of catch consisted Baltic herring (131 million kg), followed by sprat (12 million kg).
- The total catches of herring and sprat remained at the same level as last year, but increased in the south-west sea areas and decreased in the Bothnian sea.
- One third of the Baltic herring catch and two third of the sprat catch was landed in Sweden and Estonia.
- The majority of the fishermen fished perch, whitefish, pikeperch, salmon and pike with gill nets or trap nets in the coastal areas. All the catches of the coastal species that are statistically recorded decreased compared to year 2014.
- All commercial marine fishing operators have an obligation to report their catch data. Depending on the size of the fishing vessel and the catch species, reports are filed either for each catch of fish, or on a monthly basis.
- In 2015, statistics were produced on some 2,000 fishermen, fishing households or fishing vessels, depending on how the catch data is reported. Two thirds of them submitted catch data.
