Description

Information is presented on the production of forest industry products, foreign trade, consumption and mill fuels. Information is also presented on the gross value and value added of forest industry production, investments, research and development expenditure and turnover.

Content

Annual data is published on forest industry. Information on forest industry product quantities is presented according to product volume and weight. Energy unit information is presented about forest industry mill fuels. The gross value and value added, investments, research and development expenditure and turnover are presented in millions of euros (MEUR).

Categories

According to the TOL 2008 standard industrial classification, the forest industry is divided into wood- products industries (TOL 2008: 16) and pulp and paper industries (17).

Data collection and sources

Forest industry production data is based on information collected by the Natural Resources Institute Finland and Finnish Forest Industries Federation. Information about forest industry investments, turnover etc. is compiled from data provided by Statistics Finland.

Update frequency

The statistics are updated annually.

The information is compiled on the Natural Resources Institute Finland’s website as soon as it is released by the original producers of the data.

Time series

Information on the production of sawn goods, wood-based panels, wood pulp, paper and paperboard and the domestic consumption of sawn goods is available since 1955.  Information on forest industries turnover is available since 1974. Information on the gross value and value added of forest industries production and investments is available since 1975.  Information on the consumption of mill fuels is available since 1992. Research and development expenditure has been monitored since 1997. Information on the production of forest industry products, foreign trade and consumption is available since 2001.
