Description
The producer prices for fish statistics gives information on the average wholesale prices paid to producers and the volume of catches landed in Finland. The price data includes fish landed at the marine ports of Finland and the inland fish vendace.

Content
Producer prices for fish are given by species, size class, region and month. Prices are also given for gutted/ungutted fish. The statistical information is compiled from information provided by commercial buyers of fish.

Categories
The regional division of the areas monitored follows the regions of the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment with the addition of Åland. Information for the regions of Lapland and Kainuu, and Uusimaa and Southeast Finland are given together in the statistics. The size classes of fish comply with the classification set out in the Decree on the handling of fresh fish before delivery for human consumption or processing (410/84), or is based on the established practices of the fish trade.

Data collection and sources
Information on the prices and purchases of species with catch quotas is obtained from the central control register on commercial fishery maintained by the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment and the Provincial Government of Åland. Commercial buyers of species regulated through fishing quotas report the purchases to the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment. The price information for species other than those covered by quotas is calculated from wholesalers in coastal areas and price information for vendace from inland wholesalers. The prices for farmed fish are obtained from the Finnish Fish Farmers’ Association.

Update frequency
The statistics are published annually.
Preparation and publication schedule
The statistics are published by the end of the April following the reporting year.
