Main topic: Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery

Official Statistics of Finland (OSF): Yes

European Statistical System (ESS): No

Description

The statistics give the annual volume of silvicultural and forest improvement works and the corresponding unit and total costs. For fellings, the statistics record areas treated with fellings by felling method.

Content

The statistics give the annual amounts of silvicultural and forest improvement work carried out by different forest owners, and the corresponding unit costs. The annual investments by forest owners are estimated based on the amounts of work and their unit costs. Areas treated with fellings are presented by felling method.

Categories

The statistics are compiled by type of work, forest owner group and region (13 areas of Finnish Forest Centre).

Data collection and sources

Information is collected from various organizations providing services to forest owners. Forest management associations provide two types of data on independent improvement work performed by private owners: data recorded in the information systems and estimates by the associations. Information collected by the Finnish Forest Centre as part of its public administration activities is used as base data or in order to verify base data as appropriate.

Update frequency

The statistics are compiled annually for the calendar year.

Preparation and publication schedule

Information for the calendar year in question is published in two parts. Information on amounts of work and fellings is published some four months and on costs some five months after the end of the reporting year.

Time series

Availability of information depends on the type of work. For some types of work, information has been collected since the 1950s, and for others, only since the 2000s.
