Description

The statistics describe the use of pesticides in the farming of the most important agricultural and horticultural crops in Finland.

Content

The statistics contain data on the use of pesticides on the following crops: spring and winter wheat, rye, malting barley, other types of barley, oats, rape and turnip rape, food potatoes and food-industry potatoes, sugar beets, grassland for feed cultivation (not pasture), peas, cabbages, carrots, food onions, strawberries, currants (black, green, red and white) and apples.

Data collection and sources

Crop-specific information on the amounts of pesticides used and their application areas is collected from farmers during the harvest survey and horticultural enterprise survey.  The available pesticide products and their active ingredient concentrations are sourced from the Plant Protection Product Register maintained by the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes).

Update frequency

The statistics are compiled at intervals of about five years.

The statistics are published during the year after information collection.

The statistics were first compiled based on information for 2013.
