Main topic: Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery
Official Statistics of Finland (OSF): Yes
European Statistical System (ESS): Yes

Description

The statistics contain information on the cultivation areas of Finland’s most important field crops, fallow land, and the area of arable land put to other uses.

Content

The statistics illustrate the cultivation areas for the most common field crops in Finland. The cultivation area for each crop is presented in thousands of hectares for the whole of Finland and also regionally by Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centres). The classification of farms into regions is based on the municipality in which a farm’s administrative centre is located.

Categories

Data is available for the whole of Finland and also regionally by Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centres).

Data collection and sources

The statistics’s population, Agricultural and Horticultural Enterprise Register, includes farms that engage in agricultural production. The population includes all those farms whose economic output is at least EUR 2,000. Most of the data on cultivation areas is obtained from the Integrated Administration and Control System (IACS), which is part of the Rural Business Register.

Update frequency

The statistics are updated annually.

Preparation and publication schedule

The statistics are published by the end of February in the following year. An advance estimate for the whole of Finland is available in May-June, and an advance estimate by ELY Centres in June/July.

Time series

Data is available from the 1920s onwards.
