  • According to the most recent information about forest resources, the total volume of growing stock on forest land and poorly productive forest land is 2,464 million cubic metres. Compared with the previous inventory (NFI11), the growing stock volume increased by five per cent.
  • According to the most recent information mean growing stock volume on forest land is 113 cubic metres per hectare. The mean growing stock volume is the highest in Kanta-Häme, i.e. 171 cubic metres per hectare.
  • The annual increment of growing stock on forest land and poorly productive forest land is 4.8 cubic metres per hectare. Annual increment of growing stock totals 110 million cubic metres. Compared with NFI11, there is an increase of four per cent.
  • The mean volume of decayed and other dead trees on forest land is 5.7 cubic metres per hectare. In Southern Finland, the volume of dead trees has increased by 16 per cent from the previous inventory to 4.3 cubic metres per hectare. In Northern Finland, the volume of dead trees is higher than in Southern Finland, 7.6 cubic metres per hectare, even though the volume has decreased by five per cent from the previous inventory.
  • The drainage status on forestry land has increasingly shifted to fully drained peatland forests. According to the most recent information, forestry lands incorporate 3.2 million hectares of fully drained peatland forests, covering 70 per cent of all drained peatlands.  Compared with NFI11, the area of fully drained peatland forests has increased by 13 per cent.

The results for the whole country have been calculated using the measurements of NFI12 during the years 2014-2016. Regional results have been calculated using the measurements of last five years (2012-2016) in NFI11 and in NFI12. In Åland and in Northern Lapland only the measurements of NFI11 have been made for the present.
