Internet connections and access to information of agricultural and horticultural enterprises (provisional)

  • Advisory and producer organisations are the key source of professional information and advice for agricultural and horticultural enterprises, as 37 per cent list them as the most important source.
  • Professional magazines and internet sites are the most important source of information for 32 per cent of farms
  • Other farmers and other entrepreneurs in the sector are the key source of information for 15 per cent of farms.
  • The need for new knowledge is greatest about production methods and technology, as 41 per cent of farms named this as the most important.
  • More than half (56%) of agricultural and horticultural enterprises use a fixed Internet connection on the farm whereas around three of four farms (76%) use a mobile Internet connection.
  • Almost 80 per cent of farms have access to a sufficiently fast and reliable Internet connection but 16 per cent of farms have to manage with an inadequate Internet connection.
  • Seven per cent of the farms do not use the Internet at all in managing their farm.
