Wood consumption 2014

Published 12.8.2015
  • In 2014, 73.4 million cubic metres of roundwood was consumed in Finland, which was about the same as the year before and 6 per cent above the average in the previous five-year period.
  • Most of the roundwood, 63.9 million cubic metres (87%), was consumed as raw material in the forest industries. The remaining 9.5 million cubic metres was turned into energy through combustion of fuelwood in small-scale housing (5.4 million m³) and of forest chips made from stemwood (4.2 million m³) in heating and power plants.
  • A total of 25.1 million cubic metres of forest industry by-products and wood residues were consumed. Of this, 9.2 million cubic metres were used for the production of forest industry products.
  • The forest industries’ wood consumption is presented in more detail in Natural Resources Institute Finland’s statistics publication dated 17 April 2015. Detailed information on wood consumption in energy generation was published on 8 May 2015 (see Release Calendar).
