Cereals purchased, used and stockpiled, Q2 2019 and crop year 2018/2019

During the crop year 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019: (change from previous crop year in brackets):

  • Industry and traders purchased a total of 1.6 billion kilos (-13%) of cereals and 62 million kilos (+1%) of rape and turnip rape from farms.
  • The amounts purchased from farms included 655 million kilos (-1%) of barley, 371 million kilos (-29%) of wheat, 543 million kilos (-8%) of oats and 63 million kilos (-31%) of rye.
  • A total of 1.3 billion kilos (-4%) of Finnish and imported cereals were used by relevant industries.
  • 563 million kilos (-10%) of cereals were used for animal feed production and 428 million kilos (+1%) for food production. 339 million kilos (0%) were used for other industrial production.

At the end of June 2019:

  • Trade and industry stocks contained a combined total of 410 million kilos (-9%) of cereals.
  • The cereal stocks contained 99 million kilos (-23%) of wheat, 54 million kilos (-22%) of rye, 141 million kilos (+28%) of barley and 115 million kilos (-19%) of oats.
