  • The commercial inland fishery catch totalled 5.3 million kilos in 2020. In 2019, the total catch was 6.4 million kilos.
  • The crayfish catch totalled approximately 774,000 crayfish, consisting almost completely of signal crayfish. Noble crayfish, an indigenous species in Finland, accounted for only 1%.
  • The total value of the catch was EUR 15.4 million, being EUR 1.8 million lower than in the year before.
  •  Vendace was the most important fish species in inland fisheries, when measured by the volume of the catch. It accounted for roughly 40% of the total catch.
  • When measured by the value of the catch, pikeperch was clearly more significant than vendace: the value of the pikeperch catch was EUR 5.7 million, while that of the vendace catch, including roe, was EUR 5.0 million. Combined, these two species accounted for three quarters of the total value of the commercial inland fish catch.
  • European whitefish was the third most valuable inland species (EUR 0.88 million). Of all species, European whitefish was the fourth most valuable species following pikeperch, vendace and signal crayfish (EUR 0.93 million).
  • Of the catch of removal fishing of EUR 0.87 million, roach accounted for roughly 40%, and bream and smelt some 20% each. Other species caught in removal fishing included perch, ruffe and blue bream.
  • There were 1,637 registered commercial inland fishermen in Finland at the end of 2020. Of these, 326 were group 1 fishermen.
