Commercial marine fishery 2017

In 2017, the marine catch by fishing vessels registered in Finland totalled 155 million kg. The producer price of catch was 36 million.

The bulk of catch consisted Baltic herring (134 million kg), followed by sprat (16 million kg).

The total catches of herring and sprat remained at the same level as last year, but increased in the southern Baltic and in the Gulf of Finland and decreased in the Bothnian sea.

All commercial marine fishing operators have an obligation to report their catch data. Depending on the size of the fishing vessel and the catch species, reports are filed either for each catch of fish, or on a monthly basis.
