Crop Production Statistics and the quality of the grain harvest 2020 (advance information)

Published 24.11.2020

The 2020 harvest level of barley, the main cereal in the cereal harvest, fell one fifth behind the average level, as did the harvest levels of wheat and rye. Instead, the oat harvest exceeded the ten-year average by one tenth. The grain harvest was 3.3 million tons, i.e. the third lowest in the 2000s.

  • Totalling 1.342 million tons, the barley harvest decreased by 20%
  • Totalling 1.167 million tons corresponded to that of last year
  • Totalling 667,000 tons, the wheat harvest decreased by 26%
  • Totalling 66,000 tons - the rye harvest decreased by 64%
  • The potato harvest, 602,000 tons, corresponded to that of last year
  • The peas harvest (52,000 tons) was 54% higher year-on-year

The information will be reported as final in March 2021, when the confirmed data supplied by farms included in the sample will become available for the calculation of harvest volumes. Information about the quality of the grain harvest has been compiled by combining the harvest information collected by Luke and Finnish Food Authority's grain quality monitoring information.  Read more
