Industrial roundwood removals by region 2018

  • In 2018, 68.9 million m³ of roundwood was harvested for use by the forest industries. This removal volume was an all-time high and 6.0 million m³ (+9%) larger than in 2017. Compared to the average for the preceding ten-year period, the increase was 27%.
  • Sawlogs accounted for 29.4 million m³ and pulpwood for 39.5 million m³ of the industrial roundwood removal.
  • Removals from forests in non-industrial private ownership were up by 12% from the previous year to a total of 57.8 million m³.
  • Forest industry companies and the state harvested 11.1 million m³ of roundwood from their forests, which is 2% less than preceding year.
  • In total, 4.5 million m³ of energy wood was harvested in 2018. Of this amount, 2.5 million m³ was delimbed stems and whole-trees. The remaining 2.1 million m³ consisted of logging residues and stumps.
